When you activate a bench player to your active roster he will only start accumulating points from the time he joined your roster. His points will not be retroactive from the start of the season.
There are several options for breaking any ties between pool participants at the end of the season. The adminstratior of the pool has the option to select the Tie breaker of their chose. ( Available on the general rules page)
Least games played The winner is the person who's total number of games played by all of his or her players is the least.
Best first pick The winner is the person who's first round pick has the most points.
Pick order The winner is the person who was first in the draft order when the pool was set up.
Most goals scored The winner is the person who's total number of goals scored by all of his or her players is the most.
This is the maximum number of point a pick can earn in your pool. For example, if you set this limit to 120, and one of your player earns 126 points, they will only be given credit for 120. Leave this field empty if you do not want a limit on points earned.
If this checkbox is checked, a competitor's predictions for future races will be hidden from other competitors.
This is the number of drafting rounds or if you prefer, the number of players each competitors of your pool will own. For corporate pools, this means the number of players groups. Note that in an active/bench type pool, this number must include active + bench players so if you want 10 active players and 2 benched players, then enter 12 in this box.
This option is used especially when you enable the Online Registration, which means that your competitors can make their predictions themselves on PoolExpert, without having you enter them. The number of minutes you specify in this box will determine the time when PoolExpert will lock the predictions form for a particular race. For example, if you specify 2880, race predictions will be locked 48 hours or 2 days before the race actually happen. If you want both your qualifications AND your race predictions to lock at the same time, add 1440 to the number you specified in the qualification time limit. For example, if you specified 10 minutes for the qualification, then you should put 1450 in the race box.
Check this box if you want to use the 'Active/Reserve' feature. This feature is used when you do not want to calculate all your picks in the total. Further details will be given to you later if you choose this option. Do NOT check it if you want to count all your competitor's picks.
Players of the week points will be awarded for a player if that player was 'active' as of Sunday, regardless of when they have been entered in PoolExpert . Generally the NHL will announce the players of the week on Monday at Noon. We do our best to enter the players as soon as they are announced.
Players of the month points will be awarded for a player if that player was 'active' as of the last day of the month, , regardless of when they have been entered in PoolExpert (sometime the 1st of the month, sometime the 2nd).
This option is used especially when you enable the Online Registration, which means that your competitors can make their predictions themselves on PoolExpert, without having you enter them. There are three trade types to choose from: No Trades, Keep Stats, or Switch Stats.
No Trades Selecting the 'No Trades' type indicates that no trading of players will be allowed.
Keep Stats If you select the 'Keep Stats' trade type, then anytime someone in your pool makes a trade, they will retain all points they earned with their original player up until he was traded. Only the points earned after the trade by the new player will be counted.
Switch Stats If you choose 'Switch Stats' then whenever a trade is made, all points for the traded players go to the new person that 'owns' them. For example, lets say that at the end of October you trade Player A (who has 10 points) to someone for Player B (who has 15 points). With a 'Switch Stats' trade type, you would end up gaining 5 points, and the person you trade with will end up losing 5 points. Thus, with a 'Switch Stats' trade type, it would be as if you had Player B from the beginning of the season, and the person you traded with had Player A right from the start as well.
You cannot use the switch stats option with the active reserve feature.
For the Count Top X feature to work effectively after roster needs to have the same roster composition.
You need to be careful when using the Count Top X with trading. If you are making trades in your pool, you need to make sure that if you trade Player A for Player B both Player A and Player B have the same Positions.
When you use Count Top X with trading the player on your roster before the trade and the player on your roster after the trade act as one player in that round. There point totals are added together.
If you want to count a minimum of X picks for a given type, write this number in the 'Minimum' row below the right column. If you want to count a maximum of X picks of a given type, write this number in the 'Maximum' row below the right column. If you want to count exactly (no more, no less) X picks for a given type, write the same number in the minimum and maximum row below the correct column. Please note that the minimum option is useful only when using the count top X feature for the entire pool (the field above). For example, you may want to count a total of 15 picks in your pool, but you want AT LEAST 1 goalie. You will write 15 in the field above and 1 in the minimum field below the goalie column.

When you are logged into your account as the administrator ( using the same email address and password as you used to create your pool) click on the poolname-admin portion of your account. You then need to click on the connection tab located on the top of the page. From there you will be able to set a password for your account. By default your pool does not have a password.
As administrator you need to make sure that on the competitor page you assign each competitor's team an email address.
The competitor needs to make sure they then sign in with the email address associated with their team.Once they have done so they can click on the avatar silhouette and select their own avatar
To log in as the administrator, you must use the same e-mail address and password that you used to first register your pool. Then once connected, click on the yourpoolname-admin link in the left navigation bar.
There are 2 ways to access a pool.
1) Users can have their own accounts where they will log in with their own email address and passwords.
2) Users can the pool name and pool password and enter this information in the quick access section.
First, we would like to know if you are getting a specific error message. With an error message, we can better find what your problem is.Also, please make sure that your browser is accepting cookies and that the security setting is set to Medium. Also, Java Script must be enabled to fully use all the features of PoolExpert. Those are all the browser requirements to use PoolExpert. Those setting are correct by default in your browser unless you have changed them.
You have to use your guest password (if you chose this option) to view your stats.

A PoolExpert account may be deactivated for many reasons, but the main one is for security. An account is automatically deactivated when many hundreds of unsuccessful logins occur. This may happen if there are too many people using the same account. Each person should use his/her own PoolExpert account with his/her own email and password.
Once your pool is created, you must log into your pool in the administrator mode (with your e-mail address and personal password) and go into the Competitors section (default). From there, click on the Add a competitor, and follow the instructions.
To make a change to a competitor's roster, you first need to log in as administrator using your e-mail address and personal password. Once in admin mode, click on the button called Picks beside the name of the competitors that you want to edit. You will then see the competitor's player list and will be able to delete, add or edit player information.
Make sure that JavaScript is active in your browser. To learn how to enable it, look at the help files of your browser by pressing the F1 key.
First, log into the administrative mode of your pool. Then, in the General Rules, check the check box 'Use the 'Count top X' feature'. Now go into the Scoring rules section. At the bottom of this page, you have the section to configure the 'Count top X' feature. Use either the count top X per type or the count top X for the entire pool (regardless of the pick type) or you can use both. For example, suppose that each competitor in your pool has 10 forwards, 5 defencemen, 3 goalies and 2 teams. If you want to count the 15 highest picks regardless of the pick type, you'll write 15 in the 'Count a total of X picks' field. If you want to count at least 2 defencemen, exactly 1 goalie and 1 team, and 6 other players (within the forwards or the defencemen), for a total of 10 picks. For the defencemen, you'd write 2 in the 'Keep at least X picks (minimum) : ' row. For the goalies and the team, you'd write 1 in both rows (to keep exactly 1 team and 1 goalie). Then, you'd write 10 in the 'Count a total of X picks' field (regardless of the type).
To allow your competitors to choose their players by themselves from your draft list, you must first activate the 'Online Registration'. To do so, click on the 'Online Registration' link, and then, configure it with the correct parameters for your pool.
The main difference between a Corporate and a Social pool is the player selection. In a Corporate pool, competitors select one player from each of a number of groups. For example, most Corporate pools have several skater groups, and then a few goalie, goon, and team groups. Corporate pools are the only ones that allow Internet selection. This option allows people to pick their players on their own time. Social pools can be thought of like traditional office pools where everyone gets together for a draft and selects players all at once. In social pools, competitors can select any player in the NHL, while in Corporate pools, you can only choose one player from each of the groups that have been created by the pool administrator.
Unfortunately, you can't change the pool type once your pool has been created. You have no choice but to create a new pool with a new pool name.
There are three reasons why a competitor's name is not shown in the reports:
Enter the trading/dressing period start date. Competitors in your pool will be allowed to trade/dress/bench players from midnight 1 minute (0h01) from date written here.
For F1 PoolExpert manually runs the results on Saturday mornings after the qualifying results, and on Sunday morning after the race results are know. If you updated your scoring rules, and need PoolExpert to rerun the rankings please send us an email and we will rerun the rankings for you.
Yes, your competitors may be allowed to do some trades. To enable this option, in the General rules, choose the desired trade type. Then, a link called 'Trade rules' will appear in the left navigation bar.Click on it to get all the details regarding trading on PoolExpert. DO NOT set any trade periods here if you wish to control all the roster changes yourself. When trade periods are defined, your competitors will have a link in the toolbar on the left of the page that will bring them to the trade page. Note: For a competitor to be able to perform a trade by himself, you must specify his e-mail address in his profile and he must connect to the pool using that same address and not by using the quick access.
Yes.PoolExpert does not make any restriction on that matter. It's up to the pool administrator to enforce this rule if this rule exists in your pool.
Since winning a playoff is the same as winning 4 games, you could give 5/4 (1.25) points for each victory. However, this solution would also give points to the team who did not win the playoff, but won some games. Another solution would be to calculate these points by hand (which is not so complicated since there are only 4 rounds of playoff), and then to add these points in the Bonus section of each concurrent. The points written in the Bonus text box will be automatically added to the person's total BEFORE the final ranking is calculated. You will find the Bonus field by clicking on the Edit button beside the competitor's name in the list of the competitors.
Yes, PoolExpert does support that pool type. To use it, connect in admin mode to your pool and go to the General rules section. Put a checkmark in the “Use the Active/Reserve feature”. Once saved, you will see another link appearing in the left nav bar called “Active Roster Size”. Use this page to define your roster rules. PoolExpert will after take care of respecting those rules during trades and roster changes.

Yes and no. It is possible for you to specify a custom starting and ending date for your pool. However, it is not possible to select a specific number of games, and there will never be a day when all teams will have played exactly 41 games or have exactly 41 games remaining. For this reason, PoolExpert does not support true half-season pools.
Yes, there are two different options for trades in the Pool Rules page. For more on how trading works, clicks on the help box [?] next to the trades option. Once you select a trading option, you will see an extra link appear in the Dynamic Navigation Bar (at left) when you log in as the administrator. Step by step instructions will be on this page.

There is a feature called 'Bonus' where you can add/subtract points for a particular competitor. Bonus points are added/subtracted from the competitor's points before the final ranking is made. To add bonus points to a competitor, log in to your pool as the administrator and click on the 'Edit' button beside the name of the competitor to whom you wish to give bonus points.
The instant update feature is new to PoolExpert this year. Before this season, when you were registering a pool or when you were changing your pool settings, you had to wait until the next morning to see the results updated. Not anymore! With the Instant Update feature, your pool is now updated instantly after you register your pool or after you make any pool setting modifications. Please note the difference between Instant Update and Live Update. PoolExpert does not support Live Update. Player stats are updated only once a day around 3am.
We have a full list of NHL players and approximated salary available here: https://www.poolexpert.com/nhlplayers.aspx
The salaries of the players are taken from the NHLPA site. The salaries are updated once the NHL announces the official rosters for the start of the season.
We do not use the .1 and .2 notation. We use a percentage of the inning. So for example if hepichted 3 innings and 2/3, which in decimal number equals to 3.666666666
1/3 = 0.333333333
2/3 = 0.666666666
To Kick Start an old pool, you must login into your poolexpert account with your email address and password. You must use the same information that was used to create the pool the previous year. Once logged into your account you create a new pool. On the Pool Identification Hockey page you select the pool type -'Kick Start your old pool'
If you know that you'll have over 15 competitors, then you should pay $30, which is the maximum cost for any pool. Just print the invoice page that you need to send in with your cheque and correct the number of competitors with the approximate number you think you'll reach. You will be able to add as many competitors as you like. If you don't think you'll get over 15 competitors, just enter your billing address in the payment section. We'll recognize what your situation is and will give you a longer grace period (approximately 1 more week) before your payment will be due. You will then have until the end of the extended grace period to make your payment before we will delete your pool. If you need to contact us regarding this arrangement, please send us a message using the 'Support' page on the PoolExpert.com Web site.
Please write us. All comments are appreciated and if you have a suggestion for improving the PoolExpert site, we'll be pleased to evaluate it and consider implementation for a future version if it's feasible.

The real time stats tracker open a connection with our server for the stats to be delivered promptly to your browser. In some rare cases, it may happen that this connection is broken.
You will notice that when no updates are coming into your browser.
In this case, you simply need to reload the page by pressing the F5 key on your keyboard to reopen the connection to our server and continue to get your realtime updates.
Please note that to keep our server's resources optimal, we ask you to confirm you are still using the tracker every 60 minutes. After you have confirmed, if you were away for a while, it may take a few seconds before you start getting the updates again, the time that we reopen a connection to our server.
PoolExpert is very flexible regarding the different rules you might want to use in your pool. If you only pick skaters in your pool, you don't need the Skater 1, Skater 2, Skater 3, Skater 4, Custom 1 and Custom 2 rule types and you can leave them to their default values. However, suppose you would like the calculation for defencemen to be different than your forward players (eg. by giving them points for penalty minutes) or if you would like to make a goon or a rookie round, or any other type of round, then you can use the Skater 2, Skater 3, etc. columns to define different scoring rules. Note that you can rename the rule to something more suitable, for example you could rename the Skater 2 rule to Rookie if you wish. Don't forget when you are going to make your player selection to choose the appropriate scoring rule (Skater, Skater 2, Skater 3, Skater 4, Goalie, Team, Custom 1, Custom 2) that is to be used for calculating the points of this player.
This is happening most of the time when someone is bookmarking another page than the home page on the PoolExpert site.
For example, if you bookmarked https://www.poolexpert.com/grank.aspx, it is possible that you will always see the demo pool when you visit the site.
To fix this, make sure that you only bookmark the home page of PoolExpert, which is https://www.poolexpert.com/or https://www.poolexpert.com/default.aspx.
If you want to have a limited registration period after which people will no longer be able to join your pool, you have two options.
Option #1 is to simply turn the Online Registration feature off after your deadline passes.
Option #2 is to set an ending date. The date you will enter here will be the last day people will be able to register even if the Online Registration feature is still activated.
This option gives you another measure of control over your pool.
For example, if you are running a fundraiser, then you can tell others what the pool name and password are so they can select and enter a team, but they will only be allowed to see their stats after they have paid their fee to the specified charity. When they have done so, you click on 'show stats' and then they will be able to view their stats and those of others in the pool.
By selecting this feature, you are activating the option that allows people to join your pool by logging into PoolExpert on their own time. You simply give them the poolname and Selection password, and they can select their players without you having to organize a draft. This feature is only available for corporate pools, so you will need to create player groups that pool participants can select from.
There are two payment options on PoolExpert, either by cheque (or money order) or by credit card (Visa or MasterCard). To get all the information on how to send us your payment, just go to the Payment section when you are logged into your pool in administrator mode.
AVS stands for Address Verification System. When you get an error regarding AVS, this is most likely because you did not enter exactly the same billing address that appears on your credit card statement. Make sure that your name and address are the same as the ones on your credit card statement.
This is the date on which your pool starts. You can start your pool at any time. If you decide to start a pool after the season has begun, you have the choice of either updating each pool player's stats so they include everything from the beginning of the season, or you can simply begin accumulating points from your start date. By default, all dates are set for the regular season start and end dates (or playoffs when in the post-season).
Enter a description of your pool. Example: The Boy and Cub Scouts of Canada Pool
It is not necessary to have an access password for social pools. If you would prefer not to have a password, leave this space blank.Note that no one can change anything to your pool when connecting in Guest/Quick Access mode, which is why we leave this password empty by default. You can set a password only if you want to restrict the 'read-only' mode access of your pool.
You can change the Quick Access password from the Social tab in pool administration mode.

After logging into your account, you will be taken to a section from which you can manage your information, log into your pools or create new ones. First, you have the navigation bar located at theleft of the screen. In this bar, you will see a list of the pools into which you have already logged. Below this list, you'll find the links to manage your identification information and your address. At the bottom of the bar, you'll see the button to click on to create your own pool. The list of pools, located at theleft of the page have quick links so you can access your pools. Your PoolExpert account remembers the pool names and the passwords of your pools so you only need to enter this information once, then you can simply click on the links in order to access your pools once you've logged into your PoolExpert account.
From the 'Print' section, click on 'Printed form'. A form with your draft list will appear and you will be able to print it.
There is a 'Print' icon located on the bottom right hand side of every page.
If a game goes into a shootout with the score of 0-0 both goalies will be awarded a shutout. ( as per NHL rules).
Also a goalie must play the entire game to get awarded a shutout.
When it comes a shootout there are no game winning goals. The NHL does not give players credited for goals that are scored in a shootout.
Enter the number of points each person gets when one of their pitchers pitches a complete game.
This is the number of points each person earns when one of their players gets a shorthanded assist. Note that these are bonus points and will be awarded in addition to the point(s) normally earned for an assist.
For baseball. no hitter is not a stat that our stats provider sends us. We need to add it in manually in the following morning. We are always going to be a day behind when updating the no hitter.
Occasionally when our stats provider corrects a stats error that happens before the no hitter happen the no hitter information that we entered manually is over written. We are aware of the situation and keep a close eye on the no hitters.
[From official NHL rules] No individual statistics will be awarded from performance in a shootout (e.g. no goals - or game-winning goals - credited to scorer no saves or goals against charged to a goaltender). Also, a goalie will not be charged with a loss to his record should he lose in overtime (this is a change from current practice) or in a shootout. Instead, such a decision would be added to the goalie's OT column (e.g. same as team standings - GP W L OT). Note: Regulation, overtime and shootout wins are all counted in the W column and are worth two points. Overtime and Shootout losses are counted in the OT column, and are worth one point. Only the game-winner is counted in the GF and GA column for a game decided in a shootout, regardless of the number of pucks that entered the net during the shootout.
This report displays a maximum of 30 competitors. If you select more than 30 competitors, only the first 30 will be shown.
The points in the draft list are calculated using the 'Forward', 'Goalie', and 'Team' rules, which are, in the scoring rules page, the first, the fifth, and the sixth columns. If you use only one rule for the skaters, write it in the first column of the scoring rules page. If you use many rules for the skaters (for example, one rule for the forwards, one rule for the defensemen, etc.), only the rule written in the first column will be used to calculate the points in the draft list.
Bonus points are awarded in addition to regular points. You can always check what your pool's scoring rules are on the Pool Rules page.
Everyday between 3am and 5am.
Our stats are consistent with the official NHL stats. Sometimes the league will make changes to their official stats if there is a discrepancy. These changes will usually be made no more than a week after the game in question.
We are sorry, but we don't have the hat trick statistics for previous years. We only have them for the current year.
Please note that players that have not played in at least one game this season won't appear on this list. Also, only players that are placed on the official NHL injury list will appear here. Therefore, it might be possible that a player missing only a couple of games (for a bad cough for example) won't appear in this report.
Please enter the number of trades/dressing allowed during that defined period. If you write 255 in this text box, competitors in your pool will be allowed to do unlimited trading/dressing during that period.
